HEY, Y’ALL! My name is Amanda Torres, and I am from the beautiful border city of El Paso, Texas!
My faith has always been integral to my life. Growing up in the southwest, I have fond memories of attending Spanish mass with my family, singing alabanzas at Posadas, and watching matachines dance in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
During my senior year of high school, I was unsure of what the rest of my life would look like and was ready to settle for my local university. After a way too long application process and by the grace of God, I found myself at GW. GW continues to challenge me in every aspect of my existence-whether it is social, academic, or my faith. Attending GW has reignited my love for God and has given me a sense of true meaning and purpose. Coming from a family where both my parents didn’t attend college, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever leave my side of the southwest to be in our nation’s capital. I am humbled every day to have this opportunity, and I am excited to pursue a major in Philosophy with a minor in Music.
In my free time, you will catch me composing music, working on my life goal of being a baller, jamming out to Selena Quintanilla, and taking on any adventure this crazy life has to offer. As Outreach Director and Vice President, I desire to authentically reach the hearts and minds of our beloved GW community. There was a point in my life when I wasn’t close to God and had many unanswered questions about my faith. If this sounds like you, trust me, I know the feeling. I encourge you to be curious! Ask complex questions! And earnestly seek answers! Please know above anything else that God sees you, God knows you, and GOD LOVES YOU! The same God that created the stars, mountains, and every complexity of this universe looked at everything He made and saw the world as incomplete until He created YOU. The creator of the universe loves you and wants a relationship with you! So, I invite you, come and see!
